Hi. I’m Marc Talcott (on the left of course), and that’s Hillary, my beautiful wife, and best friend. Thanks for dropping in and caring enough to take a minute to find out about me, and about Talcott Photography.
I focus on 2 areas of photography that seem to be rather opposite, but the diversification keeps it interesting and allows me to enjoy photography regardless of the weather. You see, I love getting outside and taking pictures of landscapes, nature, and people in candid moments. I love taking pictures of ‘life’, and the world we live in. I can get lost in time hours taking pictures of nature, or in the city streets watching people.
But some days just aren’t great for getting outside, and sometimes I prefer to be inside doing studio work. Studio work is technically challenging. Manipulating light indoors is quite a challenge, and becoming proficient at that has been lots of fun. If you have tried product photography indoors then you likely know that indoor lighting and cameras don’t always get along.
How I got initiated into product photography:
Several years ago I had an e-commerce business that sold products online. I purchased a decent DSLR and started taking pictures of my products. To be honest, they did NOT look good. Sometimes they just looked awful. I did some research and bought a light-box and a couple of constant lights. Sometimes the pictures would look ok and sometimes they were terrible. If you are going through this yourself, by taking pictures for your e-commerce business, then I understand the pain. I’ve been there. Man have I been there, with my off-color images, and shadows in the wrong places, and focus that just wasn’t right.
Transition to product photographer:
In the end, that business didn’t survive, but my interest in photography grew, and after many hours of practice, practice, and more practice. And after taking courses in photography, both online and at the local School for Visual Arts (Sawtooth School for Visual Art in Winston Salem, NC), I have learned to create photographs that showcase products well. Now my photos have spot-on focus, great lighting and make products look desirable. I would love to help you by creating awesome images of your products.
A bit more…
Photography is my passion, hobby, continuous challenge, and artistic outlet. By day I’m a software engineer. When I’m not writing code or building websites, I love taking pictures and playing with cameras. I love technology, so cameras, lenses, and flashes are fun for me. I am beginning to explore videography now and this opens a whole new world of challenges and things to learn. Check out my Blog on this site, where I try to share information that helps me and I think will be interesting to others.
I’m glad you are here and taking a minute a to view my work. If I can help you with anything, or if you are interested in hiring me, or purchasing photographs, please reach out through my contact page.
